How It All Started

Born in Alabama and raised in Texas, I'm a true-blue Southern girl who recently moved to the Big Apple to pursue a career in entertainment, fashion, and design. I have always been an artist—even as a young child I was constantly creating and collaborating with my siblings and friends. I orchestrated many performances for my family with the assistance of my younger brothers. One of our most proud memories was a music video I directed on a Blackberry camera phone that featured an outfit change transition. What I thought was just a silly pastime opened my eyes to a very profound calling at my core: I love the process of creation.

From concept to execution, the entire journey of development has always excited me. I love to see how things work, and also I love to learn what people are thinking and feeling. User Experience Design encompasses both of these sides of product delivery and product reception from users, which is why I chose to enter this field. The way you can tell a story, or convey a message, through the selection of colors, style of typography, and audio or visual additions is what interests me when crafting the user experience.

I feel my unique perspective and sky's-the-limit mindset are what push me to reach for my dreams and meet challenges head-on. Overcoming my mental health and pushing past obstacles I encountered as a teen are what made me into the woman I am today. Although difficult, I appreciate the knowledge and wisdom I gained. As an adult, I realize how much I want to improve and optimize young people's education on relevant topics - such as their mental health - perhaps through a social platform of my design. I value health inside and out - mentally, emotionally, and physically. I love finding new ways to improve my life and the well-being of others through informational websites, or habit tracking apps. In this rapidly changing world, we need to be taking care of ourselves and our planet through sustainable and eco-friendly habits.

From a young age, my large and unconventional family taught me how to be empathetic and to understand how others think and view the world. I began to pay attention to how experience cultivates perception and pattern. In school, I explored creative writing, theatre, choir, and art. Before learning about UX/UI, I considered becoming an interior designer to assist my father in the expansion of his family-run remodeling company.

My passion hobbies are numerous and vary across niches. Some of them include mixed media art (I especially love painting and sculpting). Music is another great love of mine, I sing as well as write songs. I love to read both fiction and nonfiction, as well as write poetry if I have the time to rhyme. I have a history of volunteering for several different charities and public services. Understanding our society and the hardships faced is what gives me insight into the current state of problems and determining opportunities for improvements.

Presently living in New York, I am enjoying the change in pace and scenery - although I do miss the big Texas skies. If I’m not working on a song, painting, or attempting a new dinner recipe, I’m likely traveling and hanging out with my teacup Chihuahua.
